The District is committed to ensuring that people experiencing homelessness have access to shelter from November through March when unsheltered residents are at greatest risk of hypothermia and other cold-weather injuries.
Mayor Muriel Bowser marked the start of Hypothermia Season by encouraging residents to take the Hypothermia Awareness Pledge. The pledge is a commitment to look out for neighbors experiencing homelessness during the winter months. Visit cold.dc.gov for more.
PLEDGE TO HELP NEIGHBORS DURING COLD WEATHER
I believe Washingtonians have a responsibility to look out for all of our neighbors. I stand with Mayor Bowser in my commitment to end homelessness and protect residents from hypothermia and other cold weather injuries.
THEREFORE, I pledge to do my part to keep my neighbors safe this winter by calling 311 or the Shelter Hotline at 202-399-7093 to request free accessible transportation to a shelter if I see an individual outside in the cold, or 911 if I see someone who appears to be immediately at risk.
