The mission of the District of Columbia (DC) Department of Human Services (DHS) Office of Program Review, Monitoring, and Investigation (OPRMI) is to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse in the administration of social service programs and to ensure compliance and accountability with Federal and District statutes, regulations, and procedures. This includes the following key activities: 

  • Investigating allegations of suspected public assistance benefit fraud related to DHS programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and Medicaid, and referring substantiated cases for prosecution or program disqualification 
  • Investigating Unusual Incidents, such as employee or contractor misconduct, harassment, and assault, or any matter that could compromise the integrity of DHS programs or which threaten the health or safety of DHS customers, District government employees, and the public 
  • Receiving, assessing, and coordinating the resolution of complaints related to all DHS programs and services 
  • Monitoring and evaluating programs and services that are covered by the Homeless Services Reform Act (HSRA) of 2005 as amended
