Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)

The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program is a federally funded anti-poverty block grant operated through a state-administered network of community and faith-based, not-for-profit organizations.  The objective of CSBG is to address the causes of poverty by implementing programs and services that empower low-income families and individuals, revitalize low-income communities and improve the economic self-sufficiency of low-income customers.  The Department of Human Services is the state agency responsible for the management, administration, and oversight of the CSBG in the District of Columbia.

Services

UPO is the designated Community Action Agency (CAA) for the District of Columbia and represents a city-wide network of multiple organizations helping to create, coordinate and deliver CSBG programs and services.  The targeted program priority areas are as follows: Employment, Education, Income Management, Housing, Emergency Services, Nutrition, Coordination and Linkage, Self-sufficiency, and Health.
