DHS provides funding for several day centers that offer a safe and dignified place for individuals experiencing homelessness to go during the day to take care of everyday needs and access long-term services and supports.

  • Public Benefits (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid)

  • Vital Records & DMV ID Vouchers 
  • Harm Reduction Services 
  • Mail Distribution
  • Barbering Services (when available)
  • Various Other Services & Workshops


Downtown Day Services Center

Operated by the DowntownDC Business Improvement District with support from DHS and services from Pathways to Housing DC and Honoring Individual Power & Strength (HIPS)

Location: 1313 New York Avenue NW (Ward 2)
Hours: Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Adams Place Day Center

Co-located with the Adams Place low-barrier men’s shelter and operated by contracted DHS staff

Location: 2210 Adams Place NE (Ward 5)
Hours: Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Co-located with the 801 East low-barrier men’s shelter and operated by contracted DHS staff

Shelter Hotline   

The Homeless Services Hotline is open every day from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.  

If you are in need of free, accessible transportation to a shelter or day center, or you see someone outside in need of shelter or a welfare check, call the Homeless Services Hotline at (202) 399-7093 or dial 311. If there is an immediate risk to safety, call 911. When calling, please include the time, the address or location of the sighting, and a description of the person’s appearance.

During hypothermia season (November 1 - March 31), the Homeless Services Hotline is open 24 hours a day and transportation to shelter is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
