The Cold Emergency Alert Has Been Activated

The District’s Winter Plan describes how DC government agencies and providers with the Continuum of Care coordinate to offer shelter and other services for District of Columbia residents experiencing homelessness in hypothermic weather conditions to protect them from cold weather injury.

Following are the locations utilized to provide shelter for unaccompanied adults during the FY19 hypothermia season.  Overflow sites are not listed to prevent individuals from seeking shelter at closed sites.

During Hypothermia Season, the District’s Shelter Hotline facilitates 24-hour access to shelter programs and services. DC residents experiencing homelessness and the general public may call the Shelter Hotline at (202) 399-7093 or 311 to request a wellness check and shelter transportation assistance. Call 911 if some appear to be suffering from hypothermia or another medical issue. To view pick-up routes for shelter transportation, visit ich.dc.gov/page/winter-plan.
