The LEAP Academy bridges the gap between unemployed/underemployed TANF customers and in-demand jobs within DC Government and the private sector, while providing a pathway to the middle class.
In partnership with DOES and DCHR, the Office of Work Opportunity’s (OWO) offers the following positions to LEAP graduates.

Customer Service Representative (Call Center) (17) Positions
|
The position provides centralized support for the District-wide voice radio technology and other wireless communication systems for the emergency 911 and nonemergency 311 all activities for the Metropolitan Police Department, Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and customer service operations.
|
Work hours are on a rotating eight (8) hour shift that varies based on call volume and seasonal trends.
|
High School Diploma or GED plus at least (1) year of specialized experience working in a call center environment responding to telephone inquiries, and providing clerical support services using computers.
|
These positions are deemed security-sensitive. Accordingly, you must successfully pass a criminal background as a condition of employment and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of your tenure.

Trainee (Records Department), (2) Positions |
The positions consist of various simple and routine tasks, as instructed. Participate in analyzing and reviewing government systems for conformance to District and departmental standard policies, procedures and practices, and other required directives, rules and guidance of federal and state governments. Other duties as assigned. |

Legal Instrument Examiner, (2) Positions |
The position involves a variety of routine customer transactions that may include but is not limited to the following motor vehicle tasks: first-time vehicle registration, registration renewals, learners permits, driver’s permit and renewals, commercial operator’s permits, non-driver identifications cards, residential parking permits, title transactions and related administrative support functions. |

Social Service Assistant (Customer Service), (1) Position |
The position duties consist of assisting customers with information relative to the operation and program services and administration. Respond to inquiries from the general public by various methods to include but not limited to telephone calls and in person, about the availability of public assistance benefits and eligibility. Determine the immediate and long term needs and concerns of customers. Compile statistical data for various reports. Have basic computer skills and ability to respond professionally to customers. |

Vocational Development Specialist, (1) Position |
Interview and assessments of identified customers to obtain information on vocational, educational, environmental, social, family development, and behavioral health history to determine appropriate services and support to meet the customer’s individual needs. The incumbent provides a range of services including training programs; counseling and motivation of identified individuals; help assist customer in adjusting to the training or work situation; follow¬up and post closure services to enhance job readiness; case management through the coordination of services for identified individuals; and the provision of job readiness and placement services. |

Physical Demands/Work Environment: The work is primarily sedentary but does require moderate walking, lifting, filing, and standing, bending and sitting. Work is performed in the field inclusive of the customer’s home, place of employment or community locations agreed upon with the customer. An employee may utilize personal or public transportation. May be required to travel during inclement weather. However, telephone contact, preparation of reports, and customer interviews are conducted in an office environment. |
