Homeless Assistance

Substance Abuse

  • Department of Health (DOH) provides central intake for substance abuse treatment services including inpatient and outpatient care. Call (202) 727-8857 or (202) 698-6080 for the 24 hour hotline.

 

Employment

  • The Department of Employment Services (DOES) directs the Welfare to Work Program to help adults develop job-hunting skills and obtain employment. Call (202) 724-7000.
  • DOES provides employment programs in shelters and transitional housing sites.

Aging

The DC Office on Aging (DCOA) provides funding for shelter services for individuals and couples over 60 years of age. Call (202) 724-5622.

Education and Recreation

  • The DC Public Schools (DCPS) Homeless Program provides tutorial assistance for students and families in emergency shelters.
  • DCPS provides technical assistance, school supplies and transportation assistance for homeless children. Call (202) 576-5600.
